Photovoltaic Inverter Classification

Photovoltaic inverters can be categorized based on various factors. From a macro perspective, they can be divided into standard inverters, integrated inverter/controllers, inverters for postal and telecommunications applications, and inverters for aerospace and military applications. Furthermore, based on the frequency of the output AC power, photovoltaic inverters can be further divided into power frequency inverters (frequency range 50-60Hz), medium frequency inverters (frequency generally 400Hz to over ten kHz), and high frequency inverters (frequency generally between over ten kHz and MHz). Other common classifications include the number of output phases, energy destination, main circuit type, switching device type, control method, and isolation method.
